BIO

LEandrO MOTTA is a Canadian/Brazilian singer, songwriter, producer and bass player. LEO MOTTA is also co-founder and bass player of the Toronto based Rock Band The Celebration Army.  

 

​Being born in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil, LEandrO has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education at the University of Rio de Janeiro (UNI-RIO) and had the chance to study with Hans Joaquim Koellreuter – mentor and teacher of Antonio Carlos Jobim and many others.

​

LEandrO had collaborated for 9+ years – playing bass and singing - with the American harmonica player Peter Madcat Ruth, who won a Grammy Music Award in 2006 and was part of Legendary Dave Brubeck’s Band in the 1970’s.

LEandrO MOTTA recorded on many albums, including his solo "Por trás do olho mágico", in which he sang, played bass and percussion. LEO was also the writer and producer. This album has Latin Grammy Award Winner Rodrigo Suricato on guitars, who by then had been collaborating with MOTTA for 10 years. Suricato is currently the lead singer/guitarrist of the Celebrated Brazilian Band Barão Vermelho.

Still in Brazil, LEandrO MOTTA has played on high popular National Broadcast TV Shows and also joined forces with many artists, including members of Famous Gold and Platinum Awarded Brazilian Rock Band Blitz.

Moving to Canada, he graduated as Audio Engineer. Motta worked with Martin ‘Doc’ McKinney - producer of The Weeknd and Esthero - and recorded bass on Alice Smith + Aloe Black's single Baby which was released in the tribute album Red Hot + Rio 2.

In 2015, Acclaimed Producer/Arranger Eumir Deodato (Bjork, KD Lang, Frank Sinatra, Kool and the Gang - on hits like “Celebration” and ”Ladies Night”) arranged one of MOTTA's songs in NYC. The song was written in collaboration with guitarrist Lucio Kropf.
 

LEO MOTTA co-founded the Toronto based Band The Celebration Army; along with Canadian Idol Finalist Oliver Pigott, Nelson Sobral and Troy Larabie. The band had a strong presence in the Toronto Music Scene and shared the stage with names like The Trews, David Wilcox, Crown Lands, The Pack AD, Wild T and Ian Moore. The Army also played festivals such like NXNE, Indie Week, Voodoo Rock Fest and Canadian Music Week.

In April, 2022; LEandrO MOTTA released the single - Clear?. The song was self written, performed and recorded. It is now available on all digital streaming platforms. Along with the song, an official video was also released, which you can watch right here
